I’ve renewed my “all-natural”
kick. It’s ok if you do the Cowboy thing
where you close your eyes in disgust, drop your shoulders while you exhale and
slightly shake your head. It’s the next
stage after the eye-roll. I’m not
ashamed.
My all-natural obsession started many years ago and then as I got
busier and lazier, I admit, I
compromised …..sorry. I have been making
most of our food from scratch for a long time to avoid food preservatives, but I
now have new-found vigor to eliminate chemicals. I’m starting with my household cleaning.
At least it has motivated me to do some fall
cleaning. I like to do heavy cleaning in
the fall because summer finds the house dirty from in-and-out traffic and sheer
neglect. There’s not too much to clean
in the spring since I don’t have to cook on a woodstove or heat with a
fireplace or light with oil lamps (huge blessing); I just open the house up
each spring and blow the stink out …hahaha
When it comes to cleaning, I’m
pretty picky; I need excellence!! The stuff has to work and work well. I'm starting slow...just one thing at a time. I've replaced my kitchen cleanser with just plain old white vinegar and I added a few drops of lime essential oil (I think any citrus oil would work...I just happen to have more lime). Interestingly, the vinegar odor dissipates quickly as it dries so my house doesn't smell like a jar of pickles. So far I'm pleased with it.
Next, I'm going to make my own dishwasher detergent. I'll let you know how that works.
I haven't told the Cowboy that I'm starting this...he LOVES to use chemicals ....weed killers, brush killers, insecticides, fungicides, mouse bait, you name it.
Did you see that
big flash in the sky? It’s from my
sparkling clean house. I read that egg
yolks make a wonderful shampoo…..hmmmmm
