Ridiculously Random Thoughts

Ahhhh, the 4th of July!! I don't think I've ever called it "Independence Day" --well, not on purpose. That's kinda like lightning bugs vs fireflies.

"4th of July" and "lightning bugs" sound quaint and down-home; like you'd say while sitting on your porch swing, "Happy 4th of July!! Let's catch lightning bugs till the fireworks start."

On the other hand, "Independence Day" and "fireflies" sound formal and highfaluting; like you'd say while riding in your Rolls Royce, "Happy Independence Day. Shall we capture fireflies until the beginning of the fireworks display?"

I spent my 4th of July pulling weeds. Believe it or not, I actually enjoyed myself. While I pull, I think...and think....and think. Mostly my thoughts are insanely random and sometimes in the form of questions:

Is a fly confused when I let him out of my truck like 3 counties away from home?

What's the deal with weed names? -- chickweed, duckweed, pigweed, horseweed, smartweed. Who named these? Adam? Did he even ask for Eve's help? The weeds where the chicks were: chickweed. The weeds where the ducks swam: duckweed. The weeds the pigs were looking at.....The weeds as tall as the horse....The weeds Adam was standing in while he named the others....you get the idea.

Is the skin on my legs actually reflecting the sunlight? Will sunscreen even help?

Do you guys think I was a farm girl child prodigy? Let me tell you --> no, I wasn't. Instead of getting my hands and sandals dirty actually doing farm work, I was making up a baton routine to Jungle Love or playing house or writing songs or daydreaming. It wasn't until just a few years ago that I realized I even had a knack and a desire for growing my own food and being all country & stuff....and I just learned this spring that I can actually take care of a tiny flock of chickens!! Yay Me!!

So, even though I was born with all the advantages of a farm life, I was stupidly oblivious. Yeah, I'm still learning....
