I'm Going to DO IT ALL!

Today has shown itself to be completely random.  There are days when each activity flows seamlessly into the next all culminating into a well-orchestrated day  ...yeah, well this ain't one of  'em.

This is a total "bonus" day.  Mid-March in the Midwest and it's 72 degrees out!  I started the day with bold plans, as usual!   Read this with a starry-eyed, dreamy voice:

I'm going to do ALL the wash and hang it on the line...fresh of sunshine!
I'm going to wash my truck and EVEN wash one of Cowboy's trucks.
I'm going to open all the windows in the house & clean from top to bottom.
I'm going to finish up ALL the paperwork and file it neatly away.
I'm going to go through some old stuff and organize it.
I'm going to pull weeds in ALL the flower beds.
I'm going to do some more writing.
I'm going to DO IT ALL!

I think it's 4 loads.
Here's my pretty truck
All the wash is done and on the line.  The dogs found a crawdad to torment; I put an end to that.  Dogs go in, crawdad stays out.

The kitchen's a mess but, trucks are washed (not as good as they could be...I don't want that job permanently---can't do too good a job).

Lars...what a guy!

I did manage to feed the chickens...haven't gathered eggs, though.

Maple...budding!

I managed to get a few pictures taken

Now I've gotta fold all those clothes and put them away.  Blah.  The insides of the trucks look like they need scooped out.  Blah.  House is so not clean. Blah.  Papers are scattered, weeds are photosynthesizing, it's 3:00 and I'm pooped.  No seamless flow from task to task, no whistling while I work.  Blah!   What did I expect of myself at age plenty-eight?  Perfection, that's what!  Epic fail.

Pioneer-Do-It-Yourself-Spirit

At 4:00 this morning I was awake...(welcome to my world)...it was 60 degrees out!!!!!  I listened while an April thunderstorm rolled above us.  Blinding lightning, rolling thunder, drumming rain.  The normally beautifully melodic windchimes sang a new tune:  ding clang blang.  Ahhh a spring storm!!  Wait...in January?

After breakfast Cowboy and I headed toward the home improvement store.  On the way we saw a big lighted star twinkling on a barn above the barn door.  I was completely ready to pass judgment or, at the very least, ridicule them for still having Christmas lights up.  Ooops!  It's still January!

"OK.  Sorry, I'll just put this "get-out-of-judge-free" card in your mailbox.  You're excused.  My bad."

I was confused.  But I'm being slapped back into reality.   Forecast: temps are a-dropping, wind is a-howling.  Yeah, it's still January....if it's gonna be winter, it should act like it.  I'm a purist like that.

Made it to the home improvement store, oh yeah!....I have a pioneer-do-it-yourself-renaissance-woman spirit....so I am fascinated at the home improvement store.  I want to learn how to do..it..all.  Power tools, paint techniques, install some plumbing and electrical...build a barn and .... yeah, it's a sickness.  While I was thumbing through the how-to books, one of the store's employees walked by and asked if I had built my house yet.  I quickly caught on to the joke...I'm fast like that.  I told him I'd already built the house and the barn and was moving on the building the greenhouse.  We chatted about the price of groceries and gas...then tootle-loo.

I imagined remodeling all the houses and farms we passed on the way back ....still smiling....the world needs me...hahahaha

oh, yeah....thanks to all you wonderful readers who are following my blog.  :)

My Dawdling Farm Crew

Snow is in the forecast...in the Midwest...in January!  Shouldn't come as a shock, now!  But I'd bet that people are on their way to the store for bread and milk.  I ran to the store to buy food for the hens--not because of the snow, though.  Anyway, it's been such a mild winter so far...I'm actually glad to see some frozen precipitation!

I caught up on a little outdoor work...finally.  I took the tomato cages out of the garden (In January?  I know...don't judge me!)  and put them away...knowing full well that I'm just gonna have to get them out again in May....

I read Martha Stewart's blog recently where she showed some pictures of her farm readied for winter's fury.  Her orchard and hedges were all smartly wrapped in burlap.  She probably has a wonderful farm crew....  Here's my crew:
My "crew" in the blackberry patch when they should be in the garden
Note that my blackberries are not smartly wrapped in burlap...I'm either lazy or optimistic for a mild winter.  I think....both.

Here's the crew after I ordered them to help carry the cages:
"You want us to carry what?"

"She didn't mean 'us'!"

Not quite insurrection...or sedition....or mutiny....  just plain insubordination.  They use excuses like:  we don't have opposable thumbs...we don't know what you mean...we no speaka no English.

I did all the work myself....actually quite happily.  I believe the Christmas cookie fat is just about gone...hahahahaha...NOT.

The wind is blowing in some winter weather.  I've always loved snow!  I'm hoping that it will snow just enough to make everything beautiful.  No storms ... no wind...just snow.
