Just Give Me a Winding Dirt Road

This story from 2 days ago:

Ok so I'm back at the Western Edge with Cowboy and I've actually helped him do something.  Let me back up....beeep beeep beeep (back-up alarm is on)

I had the enormous pleasure of watching our neighbors' ADORABLE baby girl while The Fireman helped Cowboy roundup the longhorns to vaccinate them and to castrate the bull calves.  {soo glad I didn't have to be a part of that chore}

When the angel-baby went down for her afternoon nap, I did some laundry and  started supper...

beef stew
fresh garden salad
bread pudding
--all from scratch (yeah, I'm kinda bragging)--

After supper (Cowboy had 2!!! helpings of bread pudding...it was good...ok I had 2 helpings,too...you found me out) he asked me to go with him to check on the Angus herd in the west pasture.  They haven't previously been in that pasture and Cowboy wanted to see how they were doing.  We hopped in the old Ford and drove out to see them and do a head count. I takes both of us at least 3 times each to count them.  We compare answers.  When we each get the same answer twice in a row, we're ~fairly~ confident they're all accounted for.  Then Cowboy has to recount just one last time.  It's ok --I get it...what if one were missing and we were oblivious?  Better to be safe than sorry.

When we were heading back, I suggested that we take a drive on some of the back roads and wave at neighbors. {yeah, well they're all back roads out here}... to my great delight he agreed.   You know me; just give me a dirt road that winds so alluringly through the lush, spring green woods and I'm  at the height of contentment. One of our favorite destinations is a quaint covered bridge not far from the farm.  The reason it's one of my favorites is its history and longevity...and it's cute.  It's the challenging navigation that makes it one of Cowboy's favorites.  The terrain isn't the challenge; the tour on the giant maze of t-roads and dead-ends is.

My comment upon finding the bridge, "Hey, you found it!  Could we do it again or was this just a fluke?"

"A fluke,"  he chortled.

"The sign says:  3 ton weight limit.  Are we heavier than that?"

"Yeah, we're about 4 and a half tons.  Here we go."

We made it!  It didn't even strain under our bulk.  I was afraid I might have to get out and walk across myself to lessen our GVW.

We wound our way back to the highway near the little church and headed back to the ranch. ~well that's what HE thought.  I asked him to go down a road we've never driven...a sign up on the road boasts a year-round farm market....didn't find it...but drove through another teeny tiny town out here.

Today, I got to mow...no really, it's a privilege I don't get too often...I like it!

Recording My Life--5 Pictures at a Time

I'm at the Western Edge.  Fence is being repaired today.  I walked up earlier to see that Cowboy, Rancher and Ranch Hand were working on the fence to the back of the horse hay field.  What a beautiful day!  I remembered my camera, too.  Yeah, I'm hittin' on all cylinders.

While there was nothing for me to help with, I took some pictures.

(Here's one of my many quirks:  the memory card went bad in my camera and instead of replacing it, I use my camera's tiny internal memory *5 or 6 pictures*---so I record my life...5 pictures at a time.  Lame!  I know)

So here is a glimpse of my world

The men graciously found something I could help with:  bring them more insulators and about 6 feet of high tensile wire.  Oh boy!  I love being helpful.

Not feeling too wordy today.  It's a show and not tell day.
