Guess what I got to do yesterday….. I DROVE A TRACTOR!!!! Sorry, Dad, it was the wrong color…but I GOT TO DRIVE A TRACTOR. (Those who know my dad know what he will say the right color is). The hay crew fell apart with school starting soon, etc. and there were just 3 of us available. I’m too wimpy to be on the wagon…so I GOT TO DRIVE THE TRACTOR. I did exceptionally well, if I do say so myself. Turning the corners took a little practice but I remembered my daddy’s instructions all those years ago…and with practice, I was almost a professional (that’s probably a stretch).
While I was baling….oh, did I tell you? Ahoy, I baled, I’m a baler. I DROVE THE TRACTOR!!! Anyway, while I was baling, I thought up some lyrics to Jason Aldean’s song to fit my day. I’ll sing it to you now:
She gets up well after dawn,
Eats some lunch, makes a thermos full of peach tea.
It’s sunny day in the dusty hay
The gorgeous rays just energize her body
And a hay crew is worth the price of gold
One spot left to fill is the driver’s role
And she’s the only one
She just takes the tractor another round
And pulls the baler across the ground
And send up a little prayer
She says, “Lord, I’ve never made hay, I didn’t care why
Please don’t let this tractor die
Underneath, underneath this awesome August sky”
The summer back in ‘73
Is way too far back in her memory
But she stays strong and drives along
Remembering just what her Dad had told her
She grips the wheel really tight and prays
Please let keep me it on the row
‘Cause this hay’s ready to go
She just takes the tractor another round
And pulls the baler across the ground
And send up a little prayer
She says, “Lord, I’ve never made hay, I didn’t care why
Please don’t let this tractor die
Underneath, underneath this awesome August sky”
Whadya think? So, I’m really excited!!! Remember my bucket list? Go back and read it again if you want. Well, I can cross one of those things off. I really hope that I get to drive a tractor again. I can see why Dad loves sitting in a tractor seat. Now, to get to shootin’ a gun…. Stay tuned!!!
