I don’t watch many television shows usually; however, there is one that I will practically rearrange my schedule to watch. TLC ‘s What Not to Wear has been a favorite for many years. My daughters, Peach & Princess, and I watched it together weekly till Peach married and moved out. Now Princess & I wrestle the remote out of the Cowboy’s hand to watch Stacy & Clinton teach a woman what not to wear.
The victim, nominated by someone, is secretly filmed; surprised by an offer of $5000 for a new wardrobe; flown to New York; have her present wardrobe ridiculed and thrown out; taught what to wear & how to shop; and have a hair and make-up makeover. Thrilling!!!!
We have some all-time favorite victims: Denise, the flight attendant -- super cute!! Michelle, the dog show girl – so sweet!! We even talk about these ladies as if we really know them.
I told my girls NOT to ever nominate me. Not that I wouldn’t love $5000 to buy a new wardrobe. Not that I wouldn’t enjoy getting tips on what really looks good on me. Not that I wouldn’t love to have a hair and make-up makeover. I don’t want to get rid of ANY of my current wardrobe.
Hey, I need 10 pairs of Levi’s. Boots? Well, I need all of them, too. The Ariat Fatbaby boots are really cute and functional. The cowboy boots look stylish and I’ve gotten lots of compliments on them. Muck boots are a must!! Not only do they keep my feet clean and dry, they also make it possible to wear the jeans that shrank a little in the length. You see, you have to tuck your pant legs into your Muck boots. It’s how you wear them.
Stacy & Clinton would make fun of the wardrobe that has taken me YEARS to build. These are treasured pieces picked up at Big R, Rural King, and TSC when the Cowboy and I are shopping for other practical things. Hey, I still have stuff from Big Blue, Quality Farm & Fleet, and Central Tractor!! I’m “not one to give up on a garment just because it has a little age on it,” to quote a line from the Cowboy’s favorite movie, Lonesome Dove.
Take that, Stacy & Clinton. I know what not to wear…I just choose to ignore that knowledge.
